We look forward to seeing you at the Pongal Vizha celebrations!

What is Thai Pongal?

Thai Pongal is one of the most significant Tamil festivals, celebrated to express gratitude to nature and mark the end of the harvest season. It usually takes place in the Tamil month of Thai (January-February). Here’s why we celebrate:

  1. Gratitude to the Sun God: Thai Pongal is a thanksgiving festival to honor the Sun God (Surya) for providing energy that helps grow crops. Farmers celebrate their hard work and the bounty of their harvest.
  2. Harvest Celebration: It marks the culmination of the farming season and the beginning of new opportunities for agricultural prosperity.
  3. Cultural Significance: It strengthens bonds within families and communities, bringing people together to celebrate unity and heritage.
  4. Rituals and Customs: Families prepare a special dish called Pongal—a sweet rice pudding cooked in milk and jaggery, symbolizing prosperity. Houses are decorated with kolams (colorful rangoli designs) to welcome happiness and abundance.

Educational Highlight: The festival reflects the Tamil community’s deep connection with nature and their rich agricultural roots. It’s a time of joy, thanksgiving, and hope for a bright future.

We warmly invite everyone to come and be a part of this colorful and vibrant celebration. Let’s honor our traditions and create beautiful memories together!
